Pillars of Rome

Columns of Greco-Roman Empire still stand,

pillars among us.

No longer supporting a roof,

sky now exposed, earth beneath.

A symbol of a dominant culture,

built by the broken pieces of indigenous Europe.

Shall we let pillars crumble,

or reinforce them to build another roof?

Or can we stand in place of pillars,

where earth and sky connect as trees do?
